Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)

Emotion-Focused Therapy for Parenting (EFT-P) helps parents understand and respond to their child’s emotions in a supportive and loving way. By learning to manage their own emotions and guide their child through difficult feelings, parents can create a more nurturing and connected family environment.

The Circle of Security

The Circle of Security is a parenting approach that helps parents understand their child’s emotional needs and how to respond in ways that build trust and security. It focuses on creating a safe, supportive relationship where children feel understood and confident to explore the world. By learning to recognize and meet these needs, parents can strengthen their bond with their child and support healthy emotional development

What types of issues can therapy address for children and families?

Therapy can address a wide range of school avoidance or social interactions, family conflicts, and adjusting to life changes such as divorce or relocation. The focus is on finding solutions that work for both the child and the family.

Will I be involved in my child’s therapy sessions, and how much?

Yes, parental involvement is often a key part of the process. Depending on your child’s needs, you may participate in joint sessions, receive guidance on supporting your child at home, or attend separate sessions to work on parenting strategies. We’ll collaborate to find the right balance for your family.

How do I know if my child needs therapy?

If your child is struggling with emotional, behavioural, or social issues that affect their daily life, it might be time to consider therapy. Signs include frequent mood changes, difficulty managing emotions, withdrawing from activities, or challenges at school or with peers. A professional assessment can help determine if therapy would be beneficial.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC). I strive to be a wholehearted, centered, and compassionate counsellor, drawing from over fifteen years of experience supporting individuals to connect with themselves. I firmly believe that each person has the capacity to navigate through their negative thoughts or experiences and find meaning in their lives. My role as a counsellor is to collaboratively explore with my clients the various aspects of their lives and understand how these pieces interconnect.
